The Best of Dorien B.
Dorien has everything to be happy: a successful husband, two adorable children and a booming veterinary practice. One day, everything falls apart. She discovers her mother’s long-running love affair, her husband appears to be very close to a colleague and she has this lump in her breast. She needs someone to talk to but no-one seems to listen. Is this truly the life she dreamt of? Dorien realises it’s time to make some changes.
Of her debut feature, director Anke Blondé says “Dorien feels caught by the idea that she is the target of a cruel cosmic joke and starts to ask questions about the choices she has made. She has been genuinely naïve in her belief that the trajectory of her life was exemplary, a life that is now turned upside down as heartfelt truths degrade into ugly lies. Her rebellion is a glorious and funny journey of self-discovery”. Kim Snauwaert is a revelation in her first leading role as Dorien, a woman who rediscovers herself amid the chaos.
The Best of Dorien B. won the Heinrich Audience Award at the 2019 Braunschweig International Film Festival, the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 2019 Anonimul International Independent Film Festival and the Best First Feature Award at the 2019 Galway Film Fleadh.
“…the comic elements in this perceptive drama are achingly wry and given to moments of eye-rolling complicity.” – Wendy Ide, Screen International.
“Snauwaert is superb in a film which will tap into audience appetites for grown up, female-led drama.” – Wendy Ide, Screen International.
“A sensitive and funny portrait of a woman… Kim Snauwaert, the actress who plays the protagonist, brings Dorien to life, who is as spontaneous as she is determined.” – Aurore Engelin, Cineuropa.
