The venerable East London band Iron Maiden spearheaded the New Wave of British Heavy Metal in the 1980s. When they announced their first gig in Bogota in 2008, it caused a sensation among Colombia’s riff-deprived heavy rock fans. This delightful feature follows two teenage metalheads (Esteban Galindo and Daniel Esteban Reyes) as they skip school and wander around the city before the concert begins, only to have their precious tickets snatched from them. Debut director Leiva Cock was determined to kick against the stereotypes of his country as a drug-cartel hell and HM fans as dedicated Satanists. The result is charming and original, employing sparse animations to bring the protagonists’ macabre fantasy world to the screen.
