Four young women visit the beach. They take it in turns to tell each other incredible stories, where facts bleed into fiction, and themes come and go; there is mystery in them, like there is mystery surrounding this day. They sing, they play, they bathe, they pose, they reminisce about embarrassing experiences and throw girlish, sometimes scatological, banter at each other. They are enjoying an intimate day together, enjoying the sun and the sea on a remote and empty beach, which feels like home to them. But there are tears and anger amidst all of this joviality and play, and all the while an enigmatic house upon the hill and a car in the distance oversee proceedings. Winona is a beautifully crafted look at intimacy and relationship that keeps its secrets until the end.
